I will Plant You a Lilac Tree is a true story about a normal teenage girl who was thrown out of her house, along with her family because they were Jewish. It was taken place around the 1940’s when the Holocaust was occurring. She was selfish and greedy at first bur then realized reality. During her struggles, she met a boy named Dick Hillman. They became best friends and soon lovers. Together, they went through all of the tough times and different concentration camps together. But there was a block in her small happiness. Hannelore haven’t heard from her family in years. If you want to know what happens to her family and Dick you will have to read the book.

One aspect of this book that I liked was how realistic it was. It explained the Holocaust in deep detailing and showed me more about what really happened during the Holocaust. Most books I read gave me detailing that I already knew. And from reading this book from a person who really went through the concentration camps I learned so much more about the Holocaust. I rate this book a 9 out of 10 because of the details and the love story involved in this sad story.
