Wise – Period 7

This book The truth about forever by Sarah Dessen was about a girl named Macy Queen She is 16 years old and her perfect, genius boyfriend, Jason, goes to Brain Camp over summer. Later he puts their relationship on “hold”.She has a job at the library that she hates but cannot quit. She thinks that she has to be perfect for her mother and Jason. Her dad passed away a year ago and it seems like that her mom and her have the hardest time moving forward. Macy stopped running after that incident. Running was her passion and she thought she couldn’t run anymore. She tries to make her mom happy by studying every night and making a schedule for her life. When she started a new job at Wish for Delia, she started to become happier and realized many things she hadn’t before. A guy named Wes, also worked there. They had become good friends and they are both “forbidden”. He has a girl friend who is a troublemaker and she has a boyfriend in brain camp. A new friend of Macy thinks they were meant to be, but it was obvious to Macy, that they weren’t.

I would suggest this book to mostly girls. Girls that are crazy for a good love story and drama. A boy can read this book, but he wouldn’t understand the girls mind. It feels to me, that this book was made for a girl. I think a boy would get confused as he reads. So, if you love a good drama, this book is the right one for you.

Lockowitz period 3

This book is a sequel of the Pretty Little Liar Series. This is the 5th book in the series. This book is about what happens right after the 4th book. In the 4th book we found out who “A” was and she made the girls lives horrible she found out all these things about them and then threaten them with things. When the girls found out who “A” was they were all in shock because it was one of there good friends Mona, but then she died and the girls thought that everything was done and then now they find out there is a new “A” out there and they don’t no what to do. They think this new “A” is Ian Thomas he was accused of murdering the girls best friend Allison and lots of scary and creepy things go on with this whole “A” thing and the whole Ian killing Allison thing.

An appealing aspect of the book is that we did find out who “A” was in the fourth book and the author Sara Shepard could of ended the series of books because we knew everything that happened and all the characters secrets but she totally put a twist on everything and made a 5th book with a whole new mystery because now there is a new “A” and we have to now figure out who the new one is and there is lots of suspense and mystery in the book and that makes it really easy and enjoyable to read!

Brown- Period 3

Meredith Shale is a fifteen-year-old teenager. She is a bothersome daughter, a worrisome girlfriend, and now a fearful victim. Growing up, Meredith is raped by her father and he is sentenced to prison. When Meredith verbalizes the event, her mother turns her back. Her father is released from prison after only three of the nine sentenced years, and expects everything to be the same as how he had left it, including his defenseless “Chirp,” but he is wrong. “Chirp is dead,” Meredith justifies after she is told to “give her old man a break.” “You killed her, and now you have to deal with me because I’m what’s left” (Wiess 19). Meredith will do anything to expose her father’s “mistake,” as her mother calls it, and get him back to where he belongs.

In Such a Pretty Girl, Meredith continually uses numbers to convey her emotions. At first, I couldn’t understand why Meredith found such a comfort in numbers. To me, numbers are just a counting system, a defined set of rules. These rules shouldn’t be broken, but if they are, the inaccuracy will eventually become evident. To Meredith, numbers are one of the only things she can actually “count” on. Meredith takes comfort in numbers because she has learned to depend on their consistency. With numbers, rules cannot be broken. With numbers, lines cannot be crossed without the error being apparent. This, I noticed, is contrary to the actual crime Meredith’s father committed. He had crossed the line, he had broken the defined rules, and not even Meredith’s mother could see the awfully apparent “miscalculation”. I feel the use of numbers so powerfully tells readers exactly what Meredith couldn’t tell her mother. Meredith hopes that by disguising the issue, her readers will recognize the obvious metaphor between numbers and principles that shouldn’t be broken. Ironically, after all numbers and their meanings are expressed, Meredith’s dad tells her “I taught you how to hit a fastball and how to count, […] you might want to remember that the next time you break the rules” (Wiess 55-56).

Brown – Period 5

The Tenth Circle is a teen book by Jodi Picoult about a fourteen-year-old girl named Trixie Stone. One night, Trixie gets raped by her boyfriend Jason. With a team behind her, Mike Bartholomew (the investigator) and Janice (the social worker) investigate this case. When they hear Trixie, Jason, and Trixie’s best friend Zephyr’s points of view, they don’t know who to believe. Meanwhile, Trixie Stone morphs into a different person in the process. Her parents, Laura and Daniel Stone, go through the nine levels of hell by Dante in order to protect her from further danger. Do they succeed? So what exactly is the tenth level of hell? Read the book and find out.

This book suits people of all ages because it describes not only a teenage girl’s traumatic experience but the toll it takes on everyone around her. This fast paced book is filled with twists and turns and as the mystery unravels, it’s surprising. Those are a couple aspects about the book that make it enjoyable and appealing.

Sarah Dessen’s novel, Dreamland, is focused on a sixteen year old teenager, Caitlin. Caitlin’s life changes the day her sister runs away with her boyfriend instead of heading off to Yale. Caitlin’s sister Cass was always the “perfect” one in the family. Although Caitlin never showed the care and love for her sister; she felt that the world was spinning out of control when she found out Cass left. Knowing that she can’t take her sisters place, Caitlin decided to live her life carefree. She started to go out with the seductive, Rogerson Biscoe, and ended up getting into deep trouble. Caitlin thought Rogerson was the intelligent, sensitive, caring boyfriend, but she was wrong. Rogerson started to influence her into doing drugs, took advantage of her, suddenly becoming violent and Caitlin feels trapped, not knowing what to do. Caitlin is desperate for someone to notice and help, because she realizes that she couldn’t help herself.

One interesting aspect of this book is that many teenagers are able to relate with Caitlin’s life in the novel. Similar to Caitlin, teenagers also struggle with bad influences during their high school lives. Through all the stress, teenagers lose self-confidence, self-esteem, and common sense, which leads to even greater danger. Not only does the novel show us the pressure and influence Caitlin goes through, but it also shows us the true feelings that a teenager may feel throughout their life. The novel also illustrates how Caitlin fights herself to get help, and the struggles that follow as she takes each step. Through all the burden and stress, Caitlin finally gains back her confident and self-esteem.

Brown Period 8

Uglies is a book about a teenager named Tally who is about to turn sixteen. In Tally’s society, when you turn sixteen, an operation turns you from a really ugly person to a pretty. Tally meets someone named Shay and they become good friends. It turns out their birthday is on the same day and they can turn pretty together, but there’s one problem Shay doesn’t want to turn pretty. Shay runs away to the smoke and Tally promises to keep it a secret. She goes to get the surgery on her birthday and the doctor says she can’t get the operation unless she helps the doctors find Shay. So will Tally tell on Shay, or will she go to the smoke with Shay?

This book is really good and you never what’s going to happen. It has a lot of good detail and explains a lot of events. The book does not carry on like some other books do. I think the most appealing aspect of the book is the ending. I really enjoyed how the author wrote it. I showed a lot of good details. I think the whole book is good but mostly the ending.

Brown Period 3

The main conflict in this book is about a girl named Macy deciding if she really wants to be in a relationship with her perfectly smart boyfriend Jason forever. At first, Macy truly believes they will be together and she’s pretty content with the idea of that. But when Jason goes to “Brain Camp” all summer and Macy meets Wes, she starts thinking about if forever is too long. She doesn’t know if she’d rather be with Jason and be “perfect” and smart, or get to have fun and actually be happy for once and be with Wes. Macy meets many people along the way who help and hurt her decision for love and life.

One specific aspect of the book that is appealing is when Macy starts to make new friends over the summer. Those new friends have a huge influence on her and help her change in a positive way. They help her find out that there’s no such thing as perfect and that her boyfriend Jason is always trying to say that there is. For once in her life she is very happy because of her new friends. She isn’t trying to be perfect and do extra work when she should be taking a break. Her mother isn’t pleased with these changes because, like Jason, she wants Macy to be perfect. But Macy is very happy with these changes in herself. Her friends help her decide that even though you have forever to try and reach perfection, you will never get there because there is no such thing.

Wise- Period 2

Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan is about a high school boy, Paul, who goes through difficult times. Paul is gay and has a very complicated love life. Paul has a best friend by the name of Joni. They’ve been friends forever. During their sophomore year in high school, Paul meets a boy who’s name is Noah. He falls for him and hopes for the same feelings in return. Paul gets to know him and hopes everything works out. Though Paul tries to focus on this relationship he finds distractions continue to complicate his life. Paul makes a bold move that adds more potential drama.

I really enjoyed the book Boy Meets Boy. The novel was filled with drama, unusual twists and turns and covered a wide array of emotions. Each chapter would push me to want to read more. My heart ached during certain parts of the book for the character feeling the pain. Being in high school, it was more meaningful to read at this stage of my life. I related to the characters. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys drama and love stories. It was a terrific book. I am very glad i chose to read it.

Colan- Period 1

Heiress For Hire is about a 23 year old spoiled rich girl named Amanda Delmar. Her father feels she needs to work for her money instead of living off of his, so he cuts her off and sends her to a remote, town called Cuttersville. While there Amanda’s father buys her an apartment to stay in but the rest is up to her to work out. While in Cuttersville, Amanda finds a job as a nanny for a little girl named Piper, and the father isn’t too bad either. While Amanda is supposed to be taking care of Piper, throughout the story she’s really taking care of her love life. Danny and Amanda have some good times together and like each other in a way that is just too friendly for either of them to handle.

I was not surprised at all with the way the book ended up because I thought they should be together throughout the book. The twists that come along in the book did really surprise me though. I wanted to read more every chapter to find out if Danny and Amanda would end up together. Them wanting to be together, but thinking they couldn’t was silly to me because they are perfectly capable of being together, I just don’t think they knew how.

The Notebook is an all time love romance novel taken place in North Carolina, 1946. Noah Caluhoun was a young country boy and Allie Nelson was a wealthy city girl. But they fell in love one sumer and could never let each other go. Even when they were fourteen years separated they didn’t let eachother leave minds. Though Allie did get engaged to another man.. she soon found Noah again and new he has always been the one. This was an amazing book, also turned into a movie.

The book was written in a flashback sort of way. Noah and Allie are old and in an old folks home now. Allie has all timers and can not remember anything from her past. She has no idea who Noah is. But Noah is so in love with her he tells her the story out of a book which she wrote to him about their life to help her remember.
