Review by Christopher Q.

The book, The Warrior Heir, is about a boy named Jack Swift who was originally supposed to have a wizard stone, but he was born without one. So he was implanted a stone by Dr. Jessamine Longbranch, a warrior stone instead of a wizard stone! Jack was on medication to maintain his warrior power. One day, he forgot to take it. Even though he thought that he could skip the medication for one day, he noticed some changes in himself during the soccer try-outs. It turns out that Jack is not what he is; he is a Weirlind, part of an underground society of magical people. Besides that, he is one of the last warriors and the feuding Houses of the Red Rose and the White Rose are searching for a warrior for the Game! Will Jack decide whether to get away from the Houses or work for one of them?

I recommend this book to people who are interested in reading about supernatural. What I like about this book is the idea of how warriors are taken by the Houses of the Red Rose and the White Rose. And their power is decided by playing the Game, a magical tournament sponsored by both houses a warrior to fight. The winner will rule the Weir. The story made me think whether Jack will be able to get away from the Houses or work for them ever since Jack’s power was exposed and detected by the Houses?

Thom Creed is not your usual teenager. He’s a good basketball player, except for the “seizures” that start to show up when he’s stressed out. His dad is a disgraced superhero who works a factory job. Then there are the guys who are jealous of his athletic ability and his dad’s refusal to talk about his mom and why she left. Add to that the issue of being gay in a homophobic world… Life is rough. How can Thom reconcile his emerging superpowers with being his Dad’s son? Can he ever be accepted for who he is or does he have to keep lying to everyone? When Thom outs himself to save someone from jail, his whole life comes crashing down. His superhero teammates turn their backs on him, his dad leaves. How’s a guy supposed to save the world all by himself?

He is given the task of finding Darilus workshop, which is conviently located at the middle of a maze underground. He can take two people with him, he choses Annabeth Chase, and Grover. Grover is afraid of the underground so at first he is reluctant to take this quest, but Percy persuades him into it. They find that a entrance to the maze is right under their noses, it’s at Zeus fist. Grover’s wife is the first one to find it after she see’s the new teacher, Quintus, sneaking into it after dark. One day while the camp is playing capture the flag, Percy falls into the entrance by accident. No one knows what’s inside. There is only one person who can navigate the labyrinth, its builder, Darilus. There is one other way to navigate the maze, by an unbreakable spool of thread, called Ariadne’s string. Percy faces many challenges inside, and outside the maze, like cleaning the stables of man eating horses. He is helped along the way by the gods, and some of them try to lead his off the right path.

Mr.Lockowitz-period 8th

In the novel “Beastly” by Alex Flinn, the main characters are Kyle Kingsbury aka Adrian who is a round character because at the beginning of the novel he was a self-centered, arrogant, jerk that only cared about his looks and made fun of others if they were not “perfect”. But thoughtout the novel this life changes ultimately in one night and he leans that looks aren’t mostly important, that if you have personality and are nice people will see pass it and really see the beauty within you; that’s what really matters. The other main character is Lindy Owens who really is flat because she really doesn’t change because all ready she good at heart and can see past the looks.

The main conflict in the novel is that Kyle Kingsbury is morphed into a creature-like a wookie in star wars by a witch named Kendra and the only way to beak the spell is for Kyle to kiss a girl who he loves and she loves him9only true love can break the spell). The conflict is solved when when Lindy is in trouble and Adrian (changed his name when he become creature) who sees her though magic mirror goes to save her but ends up getting shot. Lindy kisses him as his last wish and he transforms but to human-Kyle is back. She and him finally end up together after all that and he and her live happily ever after.

The purpose of this book is that beautiful things in the world aren’t always “perfect”, sometimes some things like a white rose is beautiful. Those who do not know to see precious things in life will never be happy. This book is like Beauty and the Beast!!

One aspect that caught my attention is that in the book even though Kyle is “ugly” a girl can still fall for him because in this century i haven’t seem that happen yet but I’m hoping that it will one of this day.I seriously think that people should care about the inside not the outside-keep hoping for this to happen.

Wise period7

East is about a young girl named Rose. She lives on a farm with her parents and five older brothers and sisters. She loves to sew for her self and family, but it also keeps her mind off of her sister who is very ill and her family is in a bad place because they aren’t bringing in enough money to support the whole family and pay for the bills. But a visitor tells the family that he can change all of this. If Rose comes to live with the visitor, a white talking bear, all the families misfortunes will be gone and Rose’s sister will be well again. Will Rose go with the white bear? Before Rose makes her decision her mom tells her that instead of being an East born Rose is really a North born. This is important because her mother is really superstitious and believes that a North born only bring trouble. All of Rose’s life she has been lied to. What will Rose do? Read the book to find out!

I thought the book was really good. It does get a little confusing because the way the book is written is from most of the characters point of view. But, you get used to it and one you do you’ll realize that the book is really good. I recommend this book for anyone that likes adventure stories. All around it’s a good book that anyone can read.

In the book Brisingr Eragon is tested against his limits. He is making dangerous oaths to people he shouldn’t. He makes an oath to his cousin Roran that he would help save Roran’s beloved Katrina. During the time that Eragon is helping Katrina he discover someone that has betrayed the town of Carvahall and punishes him. (he finds Katrinas dad and he makes it so he can never see Katrina ever again and sent him to wonder to the elves). When Eragon returns to the varden he is looking for a new sword because Murtagh stole the sword he once had. Later in the book Eragon is sent into battle, but as he is sent into battle he gets a vision of the other person he is connected to. This vision shows that person dying.

One aspect of this book that I find appealing is how Eragon is making all these oaths to many different people and expects to live a free life. It also makes me wonder why he would put himself into that kind of position.

That starts Jack’s race to learn to handle his new-found abilities before he’s kidnapped or killed by those who want him for their personal gain. It’s a lot to take in for a sixteen year old who just wanted to make the soccer team. This is the first of a 3 book series. Written in a contemporary style, this is great fantasy read. I’m looking forward to reading the next two books as soon as I can get my hands on them.

By that I mean that the style is more formal than “Poison Study” or “Wizard Heir”, but it is just as gripping. Gabrielle is a bonemender or healer as well as the Princess of Verdeau. She enjoys her work and helping her people. One day 2 men stumble into the castle courtyard, one of them severely injured. To everyone’s surprise they are elves, who had withdrawn from humans so long ago they were considered legendary. They bring news of an invasion from over the mountains that will threaten everyone in their path. As Gabrielle’s kingdom and their allies struggle to prepare for the war, Gabrielle must struggle with her personal feelings towards Feolan the Elf and her duty towards her people. A well told story and an Abe Lincoln nominee.

Or is there a third party who profits by their aggression and does not want peace at all?

I enjoyed the writing and characters very much. There are 5 books in the series, which I am looking forward to reading as well. Am Abe Lincoln nominee and a quick read for fantasy lovers!

Brown- Period 5

Twilight is a fantasy story about a normal girl falling in love with a vampire. She starts out by moving in with her dad and starting a new school. She is not excited about either, but does it so her mom could be happy. She meets Edward, the vampire, and falls in love with him. Little does she know that he wants to drink her blood. This book is a great story about forbidden love and a great action.

I think the part of Twilight that is most appealing is the fact that Edward and Bella are in love but it is so dangerous. It makes the book more suspenseful in how they get over the fact that Edward is a vampire. Bella shows that she doesn’t care what Edward is, and that sometimes makes Edward
