Mr. Argentar

Period 5

I will Plant You a Lilac Tree is a true story about a normal teenage girl who was thrown out of her house, along with her family because they were Jewish. It was taken place around the 1940’s when the Holocaust was occurring. She was selfish and greedy at first bur then realized reality. During her struggles, she met a boy named Dick Hillman. They became best friends and soon lovers. Together, they went through all of the tough times and different concentration camps together. But there was a block in her small happiness. Hannelore haven’t heard from her family in years. If you want to know what happens to her family and Dick you will have to read the book.

One aspect of this book that I liked was how realistic it was. It explained the Holocaust in deep detailing and showed me more about what really happened during the Holocaust. Most books I read gave me detailing that I already knew. And from reading this book from a person who really went through the concentration camps I learned so much more about the Holocaust. I rate this book a 9 out of 10 because of the details and the love story involved in this sad story.

Wise Period 2

The main conflict in this book is just some obstacles that each person faced on getting themselves to saftey on 9/11. For example one person had to go down about 80 flights of stairs just to get to the bottom. On the way down they encountered many people that were injured and just people in a state of panic and confusion. Another example is that one firefighter had to climb just about that many flights of stairs to get to the fire just to have the towers collapse on them.

One aspect that i liked well i liked the entire book each story had its own importance and little part that i liked about it. Each story touched me in a different way. It was really cool to see what different people did to get out and how they helped out on that day. Like one firefighter carried a woman down about 15 flights of stairs to safety, thats something that people will never forget. Those acts of bravery will always stay with us

Wise

Period 2

A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer is about Dave Pelzer himself living every child’s worst nightmare. Dave lived a horrifying childhood. He was abused as a young boy. A Child Called It is about a young boy’s struggle to fight for his life being abused. He was verbally and physically abused by his mother. She would do things that were horrifying, ideas that only a sick person would think of. His mother was an alcoholic. She would tell Dave how worthless he was and how she wanted to kill him. This bring tears to one’s eyes. No child wants to be told they were a “mistake.” He did everything in his power to save himself. He didn’t want to die. As much as he hated the life he lived, he knew he had so much to offer to the world. Dave Pelzer is a survivor of child abuse. He is a hero to many.

The book A Child Called It was an outstanding novel. Dave is an inspiration to so many people. He did everything in his power to save his own life. The amount of detail in the book makes your teeth cringe. The book is so sad, and yet unfortunately, it’s reality to many children around the world. This book needs to be shared with the world. Child abuse needs to come to an end. He did an outstanding job writing this book. He was not proud of the childhood he had, but I believe he is proud of what he did to survive. I recommend this book to anyone who is a strong willed person. The book is hard to get through, but it is well worth it in the end.

Argentar- Period 5

In the book Poison Inkby Christopher Golden, Sammi and her four friends, Katsuko, Caryn, T.Q., and Letty, are all very close friends. They are all different and unique in their own way. With all their different talents, they make a good friendship bond. At school, they might not fit as well as everyone else, but they don’t really care. Their relationship between one another is all that matters. In one of their regular sleepovers, the girls decide to mark themselves, with their strong bond, and get a tattoo. Everyone is very excited, but Sammi. She’s worried that her mom might find out and get her into big trouble. The only problem is that their not over 18. But they do discover a new tattoo parlor and decide to go there. Dante, the tattoo artist, doesn’t ask immediately how hold they are, but he shows them a strange symbol for their tattoo. All four of her friends agreed to get it, except Sammi. She chickened out the last moment and lied about forgetting her money. All of their friends got very furious with her and never wanted to talk to her again. She didn’t want to talk to them either. But she couldn’t help that few days later, they started to act differently. They started doing drugs and having one night stands with random people. Even having an affair with their teacher. They were now considered the bad girls of the school. But that’s not the only thing that bothers her, what’s bothering her is that the tattoo might have done something bad to them that made them turn out like this. She had to change them the way they were. But she would have to do something that will permanentally hurt her.

Wise -7

Hannelore Wolff has to go through one of the worlds worst nightmares. The holocaust. She has been taken from camp to camp, seen one of her brothers get sick and die, and had to dig graves for all of the other Jewish people that have been killed along the way. The holocaust was depressing and emotional, but Hannelore sticks it out to the end and is finally free.

I am not going to lie this book is very sad. At the beginning you find out something horrible that breaks your heart. This book was written for people to learn about what had happened not only to one girl, but all of her friends and family. The end of this book take a ton off your shoulders when you learn what has happened to Hannelore and her loved ones. It has suspense, sadness, and joy.

It’s about five girls and how they see their life and how they feel about each other. A girl named Claire Lyons is the new girl at Octavian Country Day School, who is not rich and lives with a girl named Massie Block. Who thinks she’s the greatest thing in the world. Claire goes through being humilated by Massie’s friends and doesn’t know why. Until she gets revenge and ends up messing up the clique.

I liked how each girl goes through not liking themselves or how they look like to themselves. They all have their secrets that not even the clique will share to each other. Then with Claire there, they start liking themselves and feel better knowing Claire can be herself and can be themselves even around Massie.

Chalked Up by Jennifer Sey is about a teen gymnasts dreams to be an Olympic gymnast, and her struggles on the way of getting there. At the age of 38, Mike Jacki, head of the U.S. Gymnastics Team, calls Jen and asks her to compete in an upcoming meet. But after 20 years she’s not sure she’ll be able to regain all of her skills. The book flashes back into her teenage years and tells the story of her life as one of the best gymnasts in the U.S. But as a young girl, her fear of getting hurt gets in the way of her being the top gymnast in the country.

This book is very appealing because it is based off of a true story. It goes into a lot of detail of her struggles with fear, weight, and demanding coaches. She is very determined and dedicated. She doesn’t understand why any girl would want to give up gymnastics for anything. Although she is always second best on her teams, and the assistant coaches pay more attention to her than the head coaches, she is more determined than any other girl on the team and she makes it farther than anyone would have thought.

wise period 7

In the book ” I will plant you a lilac tree” by Lara Hillman, it is about how a young girl named Hannelore Wolf and her family Selly, Wolfgang and her mom get deported to the east. Six weeks after her dad got killed. During her long journey from 1942-1945 her journey and her families journey strive to stay alive. But Hannelore get some help from her friends that she made that helped her along when Hannelore was doing badly and from her love Dick Hillman who is a Polish POW that she met at a camp. Half way during their mission Hannelore’s family gets separated from each other and her brother Wolfgang ends up dying and one of her friends. As the family dies down and Hannelore starts to loose her friends she starts to realize that she cant just think about her family and friends anymore because it is killing herself because she is giving her food to her family and some of her friends and then she ends up with no food which takes a day of life from her. She realizes that she needs to start caring for herself. You can find out by reading this book, if she does care for herself or does she stop because she knows she wont make it through Auschwitz pain labor camp.

After reading this book, I felt like I new more about Concentration camps then I ever did. This was a very touching story which could bring tears into your eye. A lot of people don’t like non-fiction books, but this one is different it comes from the heart of someone special that fought to survive the pain and suffering. I recommend this book to everyone because it talks about how they try to survive and their living conditions in the camps. If you’re into a suspenseful book this book is good for you.

A Child Called “It” is a true story about a boy who is living a very abusive life as a child. You will have to read the amazing book to find out.

I think that this book was very good for a mature audience. It helps people notice that life can be so much worse than what we think and we are lucky for living in such a good environment with wonderful people around us. It is a good book about one child’s struggle to survive.
