Echo’s life is drastically changed when her sister Zoe dies. It’s hard for Echo to realize that she will never be able to talk to her sister again. She is extremely upset about it. In the beginning of the book, Echo says how she thought that these kinds of tragedies only happened to other people far away from her and her life.

The most appealing aspect for me was how Zoe’s diary could help Echo go on with her life. Before reading this book, I thought that when Echo read her sister’s diary it would just help her know what really happened to her sister. But it was more then that. It helped Echo get on with her life even though her sister is gone. I am sure it must be hard but Zoe’s diary helped Echo move on with her life without forgetting her sister.

Lockowitz Period 3

I read the book Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles. This book is about two totally different people. First character would be Brittany Ellis she is a senor at Fairfield High School and is captain of the pom pom team and was dating the captain of the football team. And the second main character would be Alex Fuentes he is also a senor at Fairfield. He is in the gang Latin Blood and he isnt as rich as Brittany or as popular. When they become chemistry partners everything changes for them. They fall in love and can’t help each other love one another. But things change. You would have to read the book to find out what happens. I would rate this a 10 out of 10 because it is a realy good book seeing it from both of their point of views.

This book is written by a vet named Nick Trout. He is a surgical vet and also deals with traumatized animals. He wrote this book as a reflection of different stories that touched his heart in some way. He explains one case when things didn’t turn out so well. Then he describes a case that worked out best for both patient and owner. Every story has a meaning or lesson at the end about life in general not just in the vetrinaryian field.

I loved this story. In the begging it was a little slow but as you read on you would become so drawn to the book it would be hard to put down. The details in this book are increadable. Trout tells every detail about every situation and makes you feel as if you were standing right next to him breaking the news to an owner that thier pet had just died or made it through surgery. This book will capture you and never let go. It’s a great read and I recamened it for anyone. Even if you have no intrest in becoming a vet or you don’t even own a pet this book will make you feel every emotion.

Period 2

A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer is about Dave Pelzer himself living every child’s worst nightmare. Dave lived a horrifying childhood. He was abused as a young boy. A Child Called It is about a young boy’s struggle to fight for his life being abused. He was verbally and physically abused by his mother. She would do things that were horrifying, ideas that only a sick person would think of. His mother was an alcoholic. She would tell Dave how worthless he was and how she wanted to kill him. This bring tears to one’s eyes. No child wants to be told they were a “mistake.” He did everything in his power to save himself. He didn’t want to die. As much as he hated the life he lived, he knew he had so much to offer to the world. Dave Pelzer is a survivor of child abuse. He is a hero to many.

The book A Child Called It was an outstanding novel. Dave is an inspiration to so many people. He did everything in his power to save his own life. The amount of detail in the book makes your teeth cringe. The book is so sad, and yet unfortunately, it’s reality to many children around the world. This book needs to be shared with the world. Child abuse needs to come to an end. He did an outstanding job writing this book. He was not proud of the childhood he had, but I believe he is proud of what he did to survive. I recommend this book to anyone who is a strong willed person. The book is hard to get through, but it is well worth it in the end.

Wise -7

Hannelore Wolff has to go through one of the worlds worst nightmares. The holocaust. She has been taken from camp to camp, seen one of her brothers get sick and die, and had to dig graves for all of the other Jewish people that have been killed along the way. The holocaust was depressing and emotional, but Hannelore sticks it out to the end and is finally free.

I am not going to lie this book is very sad. At the beginning you find out something horrible that breaks your heart. This book was written for people to learn about what had happened not only to one girl, but all of her friends and family. The end of this book take a ton off your shoulders when you learn what has happened to Hannelore and her loved ones. It has suspense, sadness, and joy.

Brown- Period 3

Meredith Shale is a fifteen-year-old teenager. She is a bothersome daughter, a worrisome girlfriend, and now a fearful victim. Growing up, Meredith is raped by her father and he is sentenced to prison. When Meredith verbalizes the event, her mother turns her back. Her father is released from prison after only three of the nine sentenced years, and expects everything to be the same as how he had left it, including his defenseless “Chirp,” but he is wrong. “Chirp is dead,” Meredith justifies after she is told to “give her old man a break.” “You killed her, and now you have to deal with me because I’m what’s left” (Wiess 19). Meredith will do anything to expose her father’s “mistake,” as her mother calls it, and get him back to where he belongs.

In Such a Pretty Girl, Meredith continually uses numbers to convey her emotions. At first, I couldn’t understand why Meredith found such a comfort in numbers. To me, numbers are just a counting system, a defined set of rules. These rules shouldn’t be broken, but if they are, the inaccuracy will eventually become evident. To Meredith, numbers are one of the only things she can actually “count” on. Meredith takes comfort in numbers because she has learned to depend on their consistency. With numbers, rules cannot be broken. With numbers, lines cannot be crossed without the error being apparent. This, I noticed, is contrary to the actual crime Meredith’s father committed. He had crossed the line, he had broken the defined rules, and not even Meredith’s mother could see the awfully apparent “miscalculation”. I feel the use of numbers so powerfully tells readers exactly what Meredith couldn’t tell her mother. Meredith hopes that by disguising the issue, her readers will recognize the obvious metaphor between numbers and principles that shouldn’t be broken. Ironically, after all numbers and their meanings are expressed, Meredith’s dad tells her “I taught you how to hit a fastball and how to count, […] you might want to remember that the next time you break the rules” (Wiess 55-56).

Brown Period 3
My Sisters Keeper
In My Sisters Keeper, Anna Fitzgerald does not want to be her sisters’ donor anymore. (Her sister has APL, which is a type of leukemia.) All her life, her parents have made medical decisions for her and now she is ready to make them for herself. So, she finds a lawyer in the paper and asks him to file a case against her parents. At first, Mr. Alexander is hesitant at the idea, especially because Anna doesn’t have the money his clients normally pay, but he is sympathetic towards Anna and accepts the case. The main conflict of this novel is figuring out who is responsible for the medical decisions for Anna. It could be her lawyer, her parents, her sister, the doctor, or Anna herself. The conflict could be solved in many ways, but which one will the judge choose?
My favorite part about this novel is how Anna, who is 13 years old, speaks up for herself and her ill sister Kate. Until you’re 18 years old, your parents legally have control over you. Anna doesn’t want her sister to die, but at the same time, she understands. It’s hard for her to live a normal life because she feels like she has to be there for her sister in case something happens. Kate is also tired of all these surgeries and doesn’t want anymore of them. They know their parents will never agree to stop fighting the APL (a type of Leukemia) so the only way they could stop them was if Anna stopped being Kate’s donor. Anna was very brave by going against her parents in court to make her sister happy. Children and teens should stand up for themselves because only they know when enough is enough.

Mr. Lockowiz Period 8

The main conflict in the book A Child Called “IT” would have to be David the main character surviving his mom’s chores/games. His mom has changed a lot from being a good mom in the beginning and a horrible mom by putting his kid through life threatening games. David has to do gross and bloody things to survive. He gets fed little if any food for many days. He has to find disgusting way to get food. In conclusion the main conflict is a little child fighting for his life.

The thing that I liked most is that the end is in the beginning. It makes you wont to keep reading and reading until you find out what led to this ending. Another thing that I liked was that this is a true story and the author is the boy and to think that a real person had to go threw all of these games is horrible. I also liked how these different obstacles that David has to face are thought up and how he get through all of these life threatening tasks. When you read these games that he has to go through the author who is the little boy in the book uses great word and structcher that makes you feel as if you were in the book.
