In David Klass’s Dark Angel, Jeff is conflicted when his convicted murderer brother is about to return home. Jeff, the main character, feels as if he just got his life under control. He has recently moved to a new state with his mom and dad, and is happy with his new high school experience. More than anything, he is glad for the anonymity he has in this new town versus his old town where everyone knew that his brother, Troy, stabbed one of his classmates. Jeff resents his brother for returning to town and creating havoc in his life. Little does he know that his brother’s brush with the law may not have come to an end.

The details in Klass’s books always make them interesting and appealing to read. Dark Angel did not fall short of my expectations. I feel as though the author did an incredible job using descriptive language, keeping the reader engaged in the novel. I also thought the foreshadowing that the title, Dark Angel, casted on the novel. The theme of good versus evil was apparent throughout. I would highly recommend this thriller to anyone because he is a gifted writer.

The book I chose to read is called The Jester by James Patterson. It is about a man named Hugh De Luc who lives in a small town called Veille du Père with is wife Sophie. He then heads off on a “Crusade” fighting for Christianity, though he did not believe in it. He was doing it so he and his wife could be free. When he came back, to his horror, he found out that attackers had raided his town looking for a priceless relic and killed his son that had been born while he was gone. They had also kidnapped his wife. Hugh now embarks on a journey to find his wife and get revenge on those who had done what they’d done to his friends and family.

My favorite part in the book, or the part that really got me up and reading, was the part where Hugh follows the path that the attackers took to find his dear Sophie. Along the way, he fights this boar that attacks him as he was laying to rest. In the end, he kills the boar and lies on the side of the road, waiting for God to take him. To his luck, a beautiful woman named Emilie, from the beautiful city called Boreè, and some of her riders, picked him up and brought him to their city to heal him. When Hugh woke up lying in a bed, he finally got his chance to meet Emilie, his savior. After they became close in a couple days, he told her what he was doing. She decided to help him, or give him a pretext. She took him to Boreè’s jester, Norbert. At first, Norbert didn’t see anything of Hugh. But after Hugh had shown Norbert one incredible trick, Norbert decided to train him. Hugh was ready after two weeks. He now wore a jester suit that was sewn by Emilie, and he heads to a city where his liege stays: Treille. His plan is to become the jester of Treille and sneak into the dungeon and look for Sophie. Little does he know, he’s about to encounter a lot more than he expects. And So will you.

Brown Period 3

Twilight is a “love story with bite.” It is about a girl who moves to Forks, Washington because her mom has a boyfriend who wants to go on the road for a bit, so she decides to stay with her father. She starts going to a new high school and meets new friends. But, there was one thing that kept her thinking all the time. It was Edward. Edward was a vampire and he never craved anyone’s blood as much he did for Bella’s. Eventually Bella and Edward fall in love, but he has to be careful with her because first of all, if he gets too carried away, he can destroy her with his enormous strength. Second, if she is exposed greatly while she is with him, it can cause attention to other vampires in their community.

I believe that having a human in love with a vampire and vice-versa makes this book appealing to me. This is something someone would never believe or think of happening. This shows that everything is possible if you put the effort into it. Also, in the novel Edward is very caring and watches over Bella, which also makes me more drawn to the book. It shows how great love can be and how beautiful it is when two people share something special.

Brown-8

Susie Salmon was a 14 year old young girl. She just became to have lots of curious and interest in boys. One day her neighbor Mr.Hervey enticed Susie to a den under the cornfield and Susie followed him. At the den, Mr.Hervey raped her and committed mutilated murder. After she died, she watched her family’s changes from heaven. Her mom who lost volition of life, dad who tried to rise his family again, sister Lindsey who hated to get sympathy from people and his brother who was so young that he didn’t know what dying means…

This book was really appealing to me by many things. One of them was that heaven is just beautiful that doesn’t exist in the world but in this book heaven was the place that we like during life. In a sentences, souls could stay comfort. The other thing was the fact that the one who talked the story was dead girl so she could see all about the people from heaven. Hence this book gave full details of the weight that people who lost their lover should endure. The Lovely Bones was not the book to get the criminal but to show how much changes were occurred after lost lover. This book showed us well that how connctedness of family developed after a daughter died.

Review by Aaron Appelbaum
Wells period 4

Winter Games is a captivating novel that leaves you hanging at the end of every chapter. You will always be begging for more. If you enjoy action, suspense, cliff hangers and thriller novels then this is the book for you. I never knew what was coming next and I just couldn’t wait to find out. I had to keep on reading. This book is tells a story about love between two brothers who are different from other people. One must fight to save the other when trouble arises. Will the brothers be able to get out alive and be able to avoid what is lurking in the woods? Read winter games to find out. The writer uses very clear everyday language, this allows for a very easy and understandable read. This book showed me for the first time that reading can be very entertaining. I would recommend this book to all of my friends and I am sure they would love it. I am so exited to read the sequel. Winter Games was one of those action books that I would love to see be turned into a video game or even a movie.

Lockowitz-per: 3

The book “Glass” by Ellen Hopkins is about a girl named Kristina Georgia Snow. She is eighteen years old and is addicted to the drug Crank and the drug called Glass. She has a son named Hunter and fights her addiction so she can make the best life she can for baby Hunter. In the book she fall in love with a boy named Trey. Trey has the same addiction she has. Except he gets her addicted to glass as well. Read the book to find out what becomes of her addiction and her relationship with friends, family, and Trey.

I feel this book is appealing because its informs people about drug addictions and how life threatening they can be. It also makes people grateful for what they have in there life. I think this book would encourage young teens to say no to drugs. And encourages parents to talk to there kids about what the outcome is if you do in fact get addicted to drugs. Its relatable if you are in the same position as Kristina and Trey.

Review by Trever S.( Wise,2)

Josh is just a city boy from Minneapolis who is forced to live with his aunt over his precious summer vacation. As you can guess Josh isn’t to happy about leaving home to spend summer with an aunt he doesn’t even know. At first josh is sure that his summer is ruined, until one day he finds a tree house that was supposed to be haunted. Josh of course ,being the big boy he is, doesn’t believe the the stories until he meets Willie the ghost. Willie is not your average ghost though he is friendly but he has needs that he wants Josh to fill. While Josh is filling Willies needs he encounters a treasure that will haunt him for the rest of his life.

The Ghost’s grave by Peg Kehret is an easy read but also a good book. It is suspenseful but not enough to keep me reading. The nice thing though is that it was only 200 pages of size 12 font. If i were to rate this book out of 10 i would give it a 7.
